Harmful, Fake Health Foods

In today’s fast-paced world, it is nearly impossible to inspect the ingredients of every meal we consume. Unless you grow your own food and prepare and cook it, chances are you’re not even aware of what you are putting into your body – even if it’s a harmful cocktail of preservatives, artificial sweeteners and other unnatural substances.

Bariatric Physician, Dr. Amy Lee, is a certified internal medicine, nutrition and obesity medicine specialist who understands the dietary hurdles Population Health has to overcome. The processed food production system is simply not built in a way that is conducive to healthy eating and is aiding the obesity epidemic this country faces. Dr. Lee understood the impracticality of dieting in such an environment and quickly realized she was fighting the system from the wrong angle.

Dr. Lee decided to take action and has dedicated her life’s work to making the nonviable, viable, when it comes to sustainable health. In an engaging and educational viral video, Dr. Lee addresses risk factors for fatigue and weight gain, its resulting complications, and discloses weight loss strategies and ways to promote healthier lifestyle changes that yield maximum results.

"[Dr. Lee’s] goal is to standardize a diet plan that is evidence-based through educating her patients and providing proven solutions that work."

The goal of this article is to share the information she provides in her compelling video (link at the bottom) and raise awareness of the many fake health foods out there. You’ll also learn what true health foods are, what products to consume or avoid, how to lose weight safely, improve your digestion, stay “regular,” have more energy and even get clearer skin.

Three Harmful Foods

Banned in the E.U., China and Australia but legal in the U.S., the FDA is

Considering banning some of these ingredients, but you can start avoiding them now.

Harmful Food # 1

Many Suppermarket Yogurts - like Yoplait - which has twice as much sugar as some cereals.

Be Aware: Any yogurt of 6oz should have 13g of naturally occurring sugar. Avoid yogurt with more than 20g of sugar for every 60z.

Probiotic Benefit Deception: The pasteurization process yogurt goes through kills off the majority of probiotics so any probiotic health benefits you get from typical yogurt brands is negligible or outright arbitrary.

Side Note: Also avoid any yogurt containing High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Harmful Food #2

Wheat Bread

While wheat bread can be better for you than white bread, 100% whole wheat breads often contain sizeable amounts of high fructose corn syrup. Many of us already know the dangers of high fructose corn syrup and its role in obesity rates. Just ask this Princeton University research team.

HFCS or High Fructose Corn Syrup is 20 times sweeter than sugar and a chemical that is not recognized by our brains. And, as Dr. Lee points out in her video, HFCS is not only highly addictive and tricks your brain into wanting more, but is turned into fat by the body.

This is in part because HFCS confuses the hormone Ghrelin, a hormone responsible for telling your brain when it’s hungry. HFCS also disrupts Leptin production, the hormone that tells your brain that you are full.

"When these two hormones are out of whack, you never know when you are full" – Dr. Amy Lee.

Harmful Food #3

Cereal Bars

Example: Kellogg’s Special K – contains HFCS yet Special K is branded as one of the most healthy cereal options available. Even Cheerios have HFCS, and high amounts of sugar.

Side note: Another Carb to Avoid: Olestra

Marketed to you in the form of a potato chip, Olestra was initially created by Procter and Gamble to be a fat free, cholesterol free, fat substitute. However, after some push back from the scientific community on its so called “fat-free” claims, its creators changed the name to Olean.

The bottom line is that Olean/Olestra is far worse than any gluten or carb because it blocks your body from taking in what seems like the alphabet of essential vitamins: A/D/E/K.

Olean is also banned in China, E.U. and Canada. Avoid at all costs!

Dr. Lee concludes her video with an overview of the causes of the obesity epidemic in America today, and promotes an all-natural solution of four “fat loss helpers” that can help speed metabolism, lower appetite for overeating, help you better digest food, and turn food into energy instead of fat.

You’ll become familiar with probiotics, the digestive enzymes Lipase, Amylase and Bromelain, a natural appetite suppressant called Caralluma Fimbriata and with EGCG, a green tea extract that is also a powerful antioxidant. While this post is not an official endorsement of a product, Dr. Lee's video makes a powerful argument for the reasons we have an obesity epidemic in this country and how we can fight back.

We live in an environment that is consistently fast paced. Many employees do not have the luxury of preparing quality, healthy meals. Dr. Amy Lee and others are fighting obesity rates, fatigue and weight gain at the national scale. We can help by staying informed and engaged. Please click here to watch Dr. Lee’s video.
